Keeping the kids occupied as the holidays go on seems to get tougher and tougher. Films are a sure-fire way to distract them and, if the film’s good enough, it’ll hold your attention too. The only caveat here is that the film has to be a winner, or you’ll lose them. These are 7 of the best for this summer:
The Disney Cars franchise might not have a new film out this year but the three films that are already out there will be showing in theatres and they’re available on DVD – perfect if your little ones have trouble keeping still. Follow the adventures of the Disney Cars
gang as the speedy Lightning McQueen as he grows from a rookie into a champion. The film (as you might’ve guessed) involves cars doing the talking. In the first instalment, McQueen is stranded in a rickety town when he’d rather be practising his racing, but will he learn more while he’s there than he ever could’ve on the track?
2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
Another film that’s available on DVD, Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi is the latest blockbuster instalment in the Star Wars series and, whether adults think it’s worthy of its place in the canon, kids will love it. Thanks to brilliant special effects and some epic space battles, the fight between the Resistance and the First Order will induce more than more a few wows.
3. The Incredibles 2
The much-anticipated follow up to the 2004 Disney film, The Incredibles 2 portrays the superhero Parr family – Bob, Helen, Dash, Violet and Jack-Jack – as they try and make it in a world where Supers are known yet still not trusted. Helen (under her identity of Elastigirl) is chosen to spearhead a new publicity stunt, but that leaves Bob home with the kids. Hands up who thinks that will end well?
4. Hotel Transylvania 3
Another franchise releasing a 2018 summer film is Hotel Transylvania. This instalment sees Dracula try and combat his loneliness by going on a family cruise to the lost city of Atlantis. He’s immediately drawn to the ship’s captain but there’s a snag when a connection to his past causes problems. Will Dracula get his happy ending?
5. Christopher Robin
This new release is a live-action film with CGI based on the popular Winnie the Pooh stories. The plot revolves around Christopher, now grown up and disillusioned with life, and his surprise meeting with Pooh who has been parted from his friends. Christopher becomes exasperated with Pooh, but reuniting with his old friends may remind him of his values and save his relationships with his family.
6. Despicable Me 3
2017’s Despicable Me 3 is more proof that the franchises are taking over! It follows Gru (the former arch-villain) as he carries out his work for the Anti-Villain League. He’s tasked with stopping an evil child actor from stealing the world’s largest diamond but, when that goes wrong and he loses his job, will he go back to being a villain?
7. Teen Titans Go! To the Movies
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is a new animated released based on the popular television series Teen Titans Go! At the beginning of the film, the Teen Titans are distracted by their own egos while trying to stop a villain and the Justice League are forced to help them out. The Titans decide that, if they’re going to be big league superheroes, they need their own movie and, to get that, they need a nemesis to defeat. Enter Slade.
