No matter the season, British weather will always be unpredictable so it's always good to have a plan that doesn't require the family to be outdoors! So, rather than staying in the house and watching endless CBeebies with the kids, why not head to the movies? Whether you’re looking for animations perfect for little ones or a fantasy sci-fi flick ideal for older kids, you’re in the luck. Here’s our rundown of the must-watch movies for 2020.
Dolittle – January 17th
Directed by Stephen Gaghan and starring Eddie Murphy and Robert Downey Jr., this new screen adaptation of Doctor Dolittle looks set to be a big success. The film follows Dolittle and his vast array of animal friends as they search for a cure for a gravely ill Queen Victoria. The Doctor has been living a life of solitude following the death of his wife, but he must finally leave the walls of his home and embark on a heroic adventure to save the Queen. This is a kids flick but adults will love it too!

Sonic the Hedgehog – February 14th
Who remembers playing Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Mega Drive back in the ‘90s? Many parents will have fond memories of running at supersonic speeds, dodging enemies and obstacles, and collecting power-up rings whilst attempting to get Sonic to the next level of the game! Well, everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog has just got his own movie, due to hit cinema screens on Valentines' Day. The film follows the adventures of Sonic as he attempts to stop the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing him and using his vast powers to take over the world. This long-awaited animated movie is sure to be a hit with kids (and adults!) of all ages.

Onward – March 6th
Created by Pixar, this animated fantasy film is sure to be one of the most popular kids movies of the Spring. Voiced by a strong team of Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Onward follows elf brothers Barley and Ian Lightfoot as they go on an epic journey to discover if there’s still enough magic in the world to allow them to spend one more day with their father, who passed away when they were too little to remember him.
Mulan – March 27th
Disney’s Mulan was a box office smash in 1998, raking in a whopping $304.3 million. The good news is this 2020 version looks set to be just as popular. This live action remake of the animated film stars Liu Yifei as Hua Mulan - a young Chinese girl who disguises herself as a male warrior to fight for the imperial Chinese army and save her country from Huns. The epic action-adventure will be loved by all the family!

Black Widow – May 1st
If your kids love superhero movies, Black Widow is well worth a watch! Based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, the film follows the events of Captain America: Civil War. Natasha Romanoff is alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy that links to her past. Followed by a mysterious force that will do everything possible to bring her down, she must look into her history as a secret spy before she became an Avenger.
Wonder Woman 1984 – June 5th
Wonder Woman was a huge smash at the box office in 2017, so much so that it was confirmed within a month that a sequel was on its way. It turned out to be a long wait for fans, but fortunately, we’re in the final stretch now. Wonder Woman 1984 will be released in June and we can’t wait! The movie sees Wonder Woman square off against the villainess Cheetah whilst reuniting with her old flame Steve Trevor. This summer blockbuster is sure to have the whole family on the edge of their seats!

Minions: The Rise of Gru – July 3rd
Minions: The Rise of Gru is a sequel to the 2015 movie Minions. Directed again by Kyle Balda and starring the voices of Pierre Coffin, Steve Carrell, and Russell Brand, the film looks set to take cinemas by storm when released in July. Continuing on from the 2015 movie, it follows 12-year-old Felonius Gru as he attempts to join the Vicious 6 and become the world’s greatest supervillain. If your kids love Minions and the Despicable Me series, they’re sure to enjoy this too. This family favourite is guaranteed to be a hit with the whole family, don't forget to bring your along favourite Minions Toys as well so that they can also join in on the fun. Pencil this fun flick in for the long summer holidays!
Eternals – November 6th
Another superhero movie based on Marvel Comics, Eternals is predicted to be a big success in cinemas later in the year. The film stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Kumail Nanjiani and follows the Eternals—an immortal alien race who’ve lived on the Earth for thousands of years in secret— as they reunite to protect humanity from the evil Deviants. This movie will undoubtedly go down a storm with Marvel fans!

2020 looks set to be a big year for movies, due to the unforeseeable circumstances of the pandemic a lot of these movies have either been pushed back or released straight to home DVDs. We will still be keeping an eye out for the releases and look forward to seeing the cinematic magic!
