Spending time in the sun is a lot of fun, and it’s a great way to bring the family together during the summer months. However, it’s important to be properly prepared if you want to make the most of the weather. Whether you’re seeking relaxation, sports, nature or you just want to try something new, there are almost endless opportunities for fun in the sun. Here’s how to get ready for a fun-packed summer.

Hit the beach

The UK is famous for its splendid coastline, so why not plan to hit the beach this summer? There’s so much to do for people of all ages, making it a great time to get the whole family together. You could spend time swimming, walking and exploring local rock pools, or even just relaxing on the sand and catching up with each other. To make the most of the waters you'll want to bring the swim rings and the arm bands for the little ones and for other fantastic inflatable toys you can take a look at our collection which is guaranteed to have something for everyone. With no English city more than 70 miles from the coast, there’s really no excuse not to head to the beach.

Protect yourself from the sun

Before you even begin planning fun summer activities, it’s important to consider how you will protect yourself and your family from the sun’s harmful rays. The sun can feel wonderful on your skin after months of dreary weather, but too much of it can leave you sunburnt and suffering the effects of heatstroke. Make sure you wear a high-factor sunscreen, and wear suitable clothing, including a hat. If you’re moving about a lot in the heat, drink water regularly to stay hydrated.

Get on your bikes

Summer is the ideal opportunity to get some exercise and explore your local area together as a family. So, why not pump up your bike tyres and hit the road? Cycling is a fantastic way to enjoy the summer sunshine with your loved ones, but it’s also great for health and wellbeing too - increasing fitness, boosting mood and burning energy. Keep in mind that cycling in the hot weather can lead to dehydration, so make sure you plan regular pit stops so that you can all have a much-needed drink. Don’t be too ambitious the first time you set out – plan a short journey so that everyone can get used to cycling again.

Try something new

Summer days offer the ideal chance to tick things off your bucket list or help the kids to develop a new skill. Why not plan to try a new activity such as snorkelling or rock climbing or head to a town or city you’ve never visited before? The pleasant weather makes trying new things and exploring places so much easier and a lot less stressful.

Make the most of your garden

Sometimes going to the beach can be difficult with busy schedules and unreliable weather, so why not turn your garden into the dream holiday resort. This can be done easily with either a family pool or a few paddling pools for the early swimmers. With unicorn swim rings, animal paddling pools and more our Intex pools & toys collection has everything you'll ever need to ensure that your garden is the best water park anyone has ever seen. Whilst your out there take a break and play some games with your little ones to give them a burst of energy after all the swimming. To get you started take a look at our wide selection of outdoor toys. You can either play catch, have a water fight, play with some gliders and much more, don't forget your hats and water because you might be outside for hours with all this fun!

Eat alfresco this summer

There’s something so uniquely enjoyable about eating outside when the sun is shining. That’s why BBQs are so popular and why all the tables at your local gastropub are always taken during the summer months. Eating outside provides so much more than a change of scenery over lunch. It also offers a range of health benefits, including increased vitamin D intake and improved mood and wellbeing. So, whether you’re firing up the BBQ or heading out for a picnic at your local park, make sure you’re dining alfresco this summer!

With cloudy skies so prevalent over the UK for much of the year, it makes sense to enjoy plenty of fun in the sun once it does rear its head. It’s the perfect opportunity to get together as a family, try new things and get active. Just remember to protect yourself and your family from the sun at all times, using a high-factor sunscreen and wearing suitable clothing.
